Melissa Meilin Chan is a PhD student in the department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Southern California. She received her Masters degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in Asian Studies, and her thesis investigated the mainland Chinese state’s reimagination of Bruce Lee’s life and its connection to China’s soft power efforts. Her current research focuses on Sinophone cinema and literature. More specifically, her project looks at the films of King Hu. Other projects include the analysis of representations of Chineseness in Burmese-Sinophone Cinema. Melissa is also interested in translation and critical theory.
