PD Hyunseon Lee

PD Hyunseon Lee is Research Associate at the Centre for Film Studies and Centre of Korean Studies, SOAS, University of London. She is also a guest of Korean Studies at Tübingen University. She has held vari­ous scholarships and fellowships at Siegen University, Seoul National University, Columbia University in New York and Chuo University in Tokyo and at the IGRS, University of London, and lectured widely in the fields of literature, media and cultural studies. Her publications include Metamorphosen der Madame Butterfly. Interkulturelle Liebschaften zwis­chen Literatur, Oper und Film (Heidelberg: University Press Winter, forthcoming), and books on the discourses of confession in East German literature (2000, 1996), co-edited vol­umes Opera, Exoticism and Visual Culture (2015), Murderesses (2013) and Akira Kurosawa and His Time (2005). Her recent research interests are the Cold War in cinema and literature (Korea–Germany), film and history with a focus on Korean cinema, shamanism in media culture, and martial arts film.
